Job Description

Job Title: Class A CDL City Driver

Location: Hayward

Typical Shift Hours: 7am to 10am start time with an end time between 4pm and 7pm

Shift Days : Monday thru Friday

SUMMARY:

Daylight is currently looking for a Class A CDL city driver to join our Family. Our City Driver will successfully operate various tractor-trailer combinations between company service centers and customer facilities or work sites within the domicile service center geographic service area. City Drivers will also be required to sort, handle, load, and/or unload freight at various companies and customer locations. City Drivers are critical members of the Daylight Transport Family; they assist to accurately deliver our and pick up customer’s freight and help us be the fastest long-haul LTL in the industry.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Ability to complete the various forms utilized in freight movement such as shipping orders, city stripping manifests, freight bills, overage/damage movement reports and exception forms.

· Operate vehicle safely within DOT regulations that govern safe driving, hours of service, inspection, maintenance, and transportation of hazardous materials.

· Transport self and/or freight continuously throughout the service center on non-forgiving surfaces.

· Perform customer service interaction when on customer work sites to ensure they are getting the services completed to their standard and to Daylight’s expectations. Doing so in a friendly and professional manner.

· Ability to be flexible in order to meet customer needs when routes need to be adjusted or changed.

· Provide routing feedback to Operations Manager/Supervisor/Coordinator to be most efficient as well as giving the customer the best service possible.

· Ability to strategically plan for customer needs by discussing their pickup and delivery needs, so the customer's current and future needs are satisfied and served with excellence.

· Perform all work duties in a safe manner in accordance with Daylight and DOT safety standards to ensure no accidents or injuries.

· Perform basic service truck driving functions in accordance with Daylight compliance and Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements.

· Be available for work at all times in order to meet customer pickup and delivery schedules.

· Drive trucks with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) over 26,000 lbs.

· Pull a towed weight exceeding 10,000 lbs.

· Ensure trailer hitch is properly and securely attached to the tractor unit

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE – High School diploma or General Education degree (GED) required. At least one-year commercial vehicle or general vehicle driving experience. Possess a valid driver license Class A license. Must be at least 23 years of age.

LANGUAGE SKILLS - Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence,

and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS - Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY - Apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Must possess analytical skills and ability to think quickly. Proficient using GPS and other routing systems, have an innate sense of direction, be disciplined, dependable, and resourceful

OTHER SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS - Computer literate, PC; Willingness to engage with the customer and share information with Sales and Dispatch; forklift experience a plus, must be able to have a flexible work schedule in order to meet customer pickup and delivery schedules. Have great customer service, teamwork and organizational attitude. Able to operate an electric lift, hand trucks, pallet jacks, etc.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required Ability to sit for extended periods. Ability to lift and move heavy objects (up to 70lbs weight). The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.
