Job Summary:

The Department of Neurology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, School of Medicine and Public Health is seeking a Neurologist interested in pursuing an academic career focusing on aging and dementia.


If appointed on the CHS track, duties may also include research and/or teaching.

Responsibilities:

Clinical Health Sciences (CHS) Track - 70% clinical care and 30% academics



  • CHS track faculty contribute to SMPH's missions through a scholarly approach. Faculty are expected to promote based on two or more areas: research, teaching, clinical or public health practice, or institutional leadership. Responsibilities as Assistant Professor (CHS) in the department would include 70% clinical care and 30% teaching and/or research and/or service, based on areas of interest.
  • Clinical duties include outpatient clinics and inpatient general neurology attending at UW Health Hospitals and Clinics and affiliated locations.
  • If candidate choses to pursue, research efforts could include independent research or collaboration with other established researchers; including not limited to bench science, clinical trials, community-based programs, community health intervention studies, etc.
  • Teaching efforts would include participation or development of a unique or exceptional teaching program in a clinical or classroom setting, including but not limited to lectures, seminars, one-on-one clinical setting, program or course director, etc.
The successful candidate will also participate in professional, public, and university service appropriate to the rank and in administrative and committee work to support the clinical and scholarly missions of the School of Medicine and Public Health and UW Health. An essential part of these duties will be working in a collegial relationship with other faculty members.
Additional teaching responsibilities would include teaching medical students, residents, and fellows within the context of the clinical practice at UW Health.


Clinical Track (CT) - 90% clinical care and 10% academics



  • CT track faculty provide patient care as their primary responsibility and clinical teaching is expected. Faculty may participate in research, typically participation in clinical trials, and service. Responsibilities as Assistant Professor (CT) in the department would include 90% clinical care and 10% teaching and/or research and/or service.
  • Clinical duties include outpatient clinics and inpatient general neurology attending at UW Health Hospitals and Clinics and affiliated locations.
  • If candidate choses to pursue, research efforts could include clinical trials or collaborations with other established researchers.
  • Teaching efforts are typically within the context of the clinical practice, other opportunities occur in a classroom setting.
The successful candidate will also participate in professional, public, and university service appropriate to the rank and in administrative and committee work to support the clinical and scholarly missions of the School of Medicine and Public Health and UW Health. An essential part of these duties will be working in a collegial relationship with other faculty members.

Qualifications:

Must have completed neurology residency, fellowship trained in aging, dementia or equivalent experience. Must have a WI medical license by the time of appointment. Must be ABPN or AOBNP board eligible or certified in Neurology.


For appointment at Associate Professor or Professor rank on CHS Track, candidates will meet criteria established by the department and as outlined in the School of Medicine and Public Health guidelines for promotion or appointment to Associate or Professor on the CHS Track.


For appointment at Clinical Associate Professor or Clinical Professor rank on the Clinician Teacher Track, candidates will meet criteria established by the department and as outlined in the School of Medicine and Public Health guidelines for promotion or appointment to Associate or Professor on the CT Track.

The Department of Neurology has over 60 faculty and 25 advanced practice providers located at 20 S. Park and University of Wisconsin Hospitals and UW Health Clinics.
